Xbox not updating via usb
Microsoft regularly releases new firmware updates for its Xbox One controllers, and these updates fix various bugs.
But, if you’re using an Xbox One controller with a PC, you won’t be automatically prompted to upgrade your controller’s firmware.
You’ll see an “Update required” button if an updated firmware is available.
Click or tap it and the app will install the updated firmware.
Microsoft provides no way to update an Xbox One controller’s firmware on Windows 7 or 8.
Here’s how you do it: Find out where you saved it and then unzip the file on your computer.
With your freshly formatted USB drive inserted in your computer, copy over the contents of the file to the root directory (no file folders).
Xbox Support posted instructions for their ‘Emergency Offline Update’ and how to do it. It should take about 10-15 seconds and the tones should be a few seconds apart.
It’s a little more in-depth than the PS4 but still easily doable. All the network cables and turn off and unplug have to go.
If an update is available, select the “Update” button.
